The University of Mount Olive asked us to please pass this message along to all citizens to minimize surprise or false alerts to 911 and other town emergency systems.
The University of Mount Olive installed a new emergency alert siren on campus last spring to supplement emergency response resources. They have completed installation and programming and will begin full operation with the start of a new academic year. On Wednesday, August 13th from 1:00 – 4:00 PM, they will be testing all functions/sounds of the siren. The siren will likely be heard in the immediate surrounding area, so they wanted to make sure they have given advance notice since this will be their first time operating.
It is programmed to project siren, tones, and voice notifications. They plan to primarily use for weather alerts but there is multi-use functionality for other emergency events. They will likely test a few times a year.
